Which of these 4 schools do you like best?

Anonymous
For a creative, artsy, super energetic, easily distracted 2nd grade girl:

1. Creative Minds
2. Capital City
3. Stokes
4. Shepherd

thanks

I like the idea of language but it's not a necessity. I like the idea of IB as well. We live farthest from Stokes but it's not far.

If you have a strong feeling about any of these please share.
Thanks

CMI and Shepherd

You didn't ask but I would have Inspired in there.

Does she already speak Spanish or French? Why put Stokes on this list?

From what I've heard from families I know there, CMI might be the best fit of the schools listed.

I like Stokes, but wouldn't it be a bit challenging to start at an immersion school in 3rd grade (assuming she's a current 2nd grader with no prior language exposure)?

Seems like you'd have the best chances of admission at Cap City or Shepherd for 3rd grade.

Not really. Shepherd had 45 2nd graders waitlisted, CMI had 47, Cap City 75, Stokes 71. Funny how people so easily just make assumptions.

Oh wow, I had no idea! I'm the PP you're quoting and am actually a Shepherd parent, but was trying not to be a booster for once. My kid is just in PK, so I didn't realize the Shepherd upper-grade waitlists were that long.

Thank you all so much! I love DCUMs!!
I had not considered Inspired but I like what I see on the website. She has not had any language exposure but they take them at any age, right? I figured they could accomodate and we could supplement with tutoring.

She is going into 2nd grade.

I doubt Stokes will take you unless she speaks French or Spanish. The language programs start at first grade, at the latest, unless there was prior exposure. I would call the school and ask.

But the real question is how many spots there were.
were the 45 on the waitlist for Shepherd after they accepted 5? Or were there 0 spots and everyone went to the waitlist?

I would definitely have Inspired Teaching in there. We are in 2nd grade there and you described my DC to a tee. Such an amazing school with awesome teachers that support varying personalities. Especially love the music and art teachers.

Not Shepherd. It is not a school for creative thought.

I couldn't find this further from the truth. Have you actually attended the school? I will add that all schools (even schools like IT) tend to become more academic once you hit 2nd grade.

Just from what I know based on parents, CMI or Shepard. Would also add ITS.
