My 6 year old really wants to do one of the specialty camps at Congressional (it still has space), but this would require him taking the camp bus from Alexandria. He's a really shy kid, and wouldn't know anyone there. Is the bus transportation to Congressional well organized and supervised such that it would be ok for a painfully shy 6 year old?
My DS rode it at 6--actually 5, I think. They're small buses, and our experience with the Alexandria bus (the one close to Del Ray) is that there aren't a ton of kids (6-8 maybe). I'm not sure it would be great for an anxious kid who doesn't do well in new situations (like my younger DS who is 6), but if your son is just quiet but excited and willing to do it, I think he would be fine. I'm pretty sure there is no other adult on the bus except the driver (though I'd need to ask DS to confirm that). My DS was so tired at the end of the day, he frequently slept on the afternoon bus.
He's a little anxious and would probably not talk to the other kids if they were older than him. Maybe if I packed him a book or some activities.
Does your child take the bus to school now? If so, I think the bus experience will be familiar.
We did it. It seemed like a very nice group of parents and kids at the bus stop. Never had a problem and they loved the camp.
No, we live less than half a mile from our public school, so not an option. |
