For those who argue that the liberal media treat Obama with kid gloves, check out Jon Stewart:

Oh god you don't get it. Once story means nothing..it's the continued path of major media outlets having a liberal bias. Let me ask you. During all the nonsense with Miss California--why wasn't it stressed that our own president is anti gay marriage??? He campaigned on this point and it really fell on deaf ears. |
WaPo's Marc Fisher noted that both Obama and Marion Barry are anti GM. Could Obama have gotten elected had he championed gay marriage? He probably supports it privately but knows it's political dynamite. |
Please, every last one of us who voted for Obama knows he isn't really AGAINST gay marriage. No real Democrat is. It is just something you have to say, like "God bless America." Means nothing.
Anyway, who cares, gay marriage is coming whether you like it or not. They are queer, they are here, get used to it. |
Are you serious? This country really is in in trouble. |
Totally agree pp, and I think we have moved beyond mere trouble. |
I was not the one who made the first statement, but if I may jump in, I don't think the point is that it never means anything when you say GBA, but that it is sadly cheapened when it becomes the automatic closing of every political speech. However, I think the claim that no real Democrat is opposed to gay marriage is incorrect. I can't quote statistics, but I personally know some people who are very committed Christians, very socially conscious, very Democratic, and very opposed to same-sex marriage. There is no assurance in this world that what seems inconsistent to some of us looks that way to others. |
I'm a Conservative and I have no issue with gay marriage because, I really don't care. It's just a non-issue to me. I imagine that many on both sides of the aisle don't care either but, if you say you're supportive of gay marriage, it becomes an issue.
And to the person who says that G-d Bless America means nothing, I'd love to know more about you and why you hate this country. |
Amen on the pledge. regarding gays-The dirty secret is that many black people who are also Democrats are against gay marriage..there seems to be some kind of culture in the black community against gays. Kind of weird that the gays are so pro Obama and so pro civil rights in general and he returns the favor by saying he is anti gay marriage--sorry if you are pro gay marriage you should say it and be proud to say it. |
I'm not that poster, but it is clear that many politicians use the phrase in a self-serving manner. Politicians have been known, from time to time, to wrap themselves in the flag or thump the bible for self-promotion. I don't like it. I do hope that God blesses our country, though. |
I'm also not that poster, but I'll tell you one of the reasons I (most of the time) love this country... You get to not believe in God if you want, and you even get to not have it held against you. Why you would infer that someone who says that "God Bless America" means nothing hates this country? That type of blind patriotism is ridiculous. |
