Is coconut water an acquired taste?

Anonymous
I bought some coconut water after hearing about how it's great for hydration and has all of the benefits of Gatorade etc. I chilled some, poured it, took a sip and could barely swallow it. It tasted like a mix between phlegm and sweat. Not at all how I anticipated how it would taste.

It it something you get used to or does anyone just really like how it tastes? Maybe I got a bad batch? Any brands you'd recommend if I want to give it another try?

Sounds like a bad one. They're usually quite sweet.

It must be. I cannot STAND it.

I can't stand it either - makes me think it's one of those things you need to drink 10 or 50 times to grow to like it.

I tried it once as well and just hated it.

Coconut water straight out of a fresh tender coconut is amazing, especially on a hot summer's day in the tropics. The stuff sold in stores is hit or miss.

Yes. I drank it mixed half and half mixed with lemonade towards the end of my recent pregnancy and then in the early weeks of breast-feeding when thirst is so bad. Coconut water acts fast for rehydration, and the lemonade helped with the taste factor.

I find it vile.

It's awful, and I doubt it has the benefits people claim it does. You're better off drinking straight water.

Another vote for gross.

Except that lemon is a diuretic so you're not doing anything for hydration. If you're thirsty, drink water.

I love it. I do think it grew on me, but I never hated it.

I hate it and think it's a gimmick.

Pineapple coconut water is delicious. I can't drink the plain at all.

Gimmick. Nothing special about it. And I don't get the hydration bit. Yes, it has minerals but if you are just drinking for thirst, just drink water.
