Pie Throwing at My Daughter's School

Anonymous
My daughter's middle school has an annual spring fundraising event where members of various student organizations volunteer to get pies thrown in their faces. I saw a clip from last year and it was an unbelievable mess. They use whipped cream, pudding, and chocolate and strawberry syrup and the students get completely covered. The pies not only go in their faces, but also get smeared in their hair. My 12-year-old daughter has agreed to represent the National Junior Honor Society. I'm kind of dreading this activity, but I don't want to make a bigger deal out of it than it is. I'm wondering how other parents would feel about their son or daughter getting a pie thrown in their face at school?

That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I wouldn't like it.

If she wanted to do it, I would tell her to take a towel and something to change into.

I thought this was only done in old movies! Seriously, though, wouldn't it hurt to get hit in the face with a pie?

+1000 as well as Relax!

Our high school did this and it was actually pretty calm and an organized chaos. Most of the kids stayed in their small groups of 4-5 friends and gently but fun threw the pies. Yes, some of the boys were getting a bit rough but it was at their boy group who welcomed it.

Please don't deprive your daughter of something like this. She will be fine. Just give her a change of clothes and a towel and a thing of wet wipes. She can shower when she gets home and tell you all about it.

They aren't throwing rocks, it will be ok. There are also teachers supervising. It will be ok.

Anything that can be fixed with a shower shouldn't be a big deal.

Plus one. It sounds fun!

Thank you for all your replies. My daughter will definitely be going to school in running shorts and a T shirt that day with a change of cloths! They do this in the gym and the students get to shower afterwards.

Sounds like good old-fashioned fun!

One year our school principal and PE teacher made a bet about getting a pie in the face over some fundraising thing. The kids LOVED it and at the end someone got a pie in the face. The kids talked about it for years. Send her a change of clothes and save the warm water for her shower that afternoon.

Who supplied the pie? Way back when I was in school, some kids got creative and brought in a stinky fish pie, nicely decorated with whip cream of course...

Personally, I'd show up, bring the popcorn, and laugh. It's a fundraising event...a fun one.

Sounds like good, messy fun to me. A blast, even. What could go wrong?

How do I feel about my son or daughter getting a pie thrown in their face at school? If my son or daughter consented for this to happen, that's fine. It's not my face.

How do I feel about schools having official school-sponsored food-throwing events? I'm not so enthusiastic about that.

Sounds like fun. I suggest she wear goggles.
