She had no choice but to say what she did in the prologue. Well, she did have another alternative, not release half of the songs on the album at all, but since she wants her love back, this is her big gesture to him saying see, I’m telling the world now how I feel about you, that you’re worthy and they were wrong, and that “I choose you” over them, fame and my good name, “religiously.”
The ball is in Matty’s court now. He was seen going into a recording studio earlier this month, so it’ll be interesting.

I think he was her “one that got away” but she moved on with Joe. When that fell apart, she reconnected with Matty and it was especially powerful in the aftermath of her dead relationship.
