Why is my HR dept/contact so inefficient?

As a hiring manager, I told my HR person to reach out to a candidate. That candidate still hasn't received a call but I am told I must follow the HR guidelines as I cannot reach out. Is this normal? What is wrong with my HR company-what is taking them so long?

I always wonder this. How long does it traditionally take for HR to reach out to qualified candidates once they apply?

Their goals are not the same as yours. Remember the thread about the HR person who would throw a resume in the trash if she/he did not think the email provider was cool?

HR is so mean at my agency.

At my agency HR is generally known to be full of lazy and incompetent employees. They really don't care and they seem to be accountable to no one. As a hiring manager it gets frustrating.

HR is so incompetent at my job too. Same with my husband.

I have worked for three agencies and in every one, HR was embarrassingly awful. They simply didn't care. All other employees that I encountered were awesome and hardworking.

FWIW, at one agency, my good friend became the #3 person in the entire agency. I kid you not that even HR treated him like crap. It was amazing to see.

HR is well known as a wasteland of idiots at my company. Usually that's the way it is with most HR types I've worked with--not smart, strategic or particularly competent. Waste.

Why is this!? I am attracted to working in HR myself- some of what I do could overlap- but I haven't because I've almost never met anyone competent in HR and don't think I'd want to try to fit in.

After all these years, I'm thinking the whole concept of HR is somehow misguided. It only seems to exist to get in the way of the "doing work" part of the organization and the rest of the time it's going to conferences and convincing themselves that they're so great.

If the candidate matters to you, just call ahead and call him/her.
