linea negra

When did this show up for you?

i'm talking about the blackish line from your belly button south that appears during pregnancy.

i'm 24 weeks with #2 and haven't really seen it yet - i feel like with #1 it was here by now... is this a problem?

TIA!

I just had #2 and it really didn't show up until close to the end. Or maybe it wasn't as noticeable on my big belly this time. I'm now 6 weeks post partum and it's still very prominent--my 4 year old thinks it's hilarious.

You are just lucky!! Good for you! Mine showed up at 20 weeks, this is my first pregnancy and I am having a boy (there is an old wives' tale that says that the linea negra is more pronounced when you are having a boy, just a myth but I think it might be true in my case). I hate the linea negra, it looks ugly. Enjoy the fact that you don't have it! I am sure it's not a problem at all.

I didn't get it with either of my pregnancies and i"m now 34 weeks with #3 and still don't have it. FWIW #1 and #2 were boys and #3 is a girl so the myth is just that!

I had a very faint one with my first that was pinkish, not blackish. But I am very fair. Hasn't shown up yet with this one, I'm 33 weeks now.

op here -- thanks!!

had a boy with the first and another boy on the way so yeah -- don't think the old wives know what they are talking about! :O)

I got it in 3rd trimester, and it is now (8 mo post partum) very faint, but still visible.

I have a very faint line and am 30 weeks. I'm blonde and blue eyed but tan easily (I think I remember someone saying your melanin levels have something to do with it?) I can't remember when it came, but probably about the same time I really "popped." I've heard that if you get sun on it it gets darker, but the opposite was true for me. I bravely sported a bikini a few weeks ago during a beach trip and got a light tan on my tummy and the line actually blended in more. I don't hate it, but agree that I'd rather have an unblemished big belly than the line. But my hubby thinks it's "neat."

Same here.

I always thought it was more of pre disposition for women with darker complexions (and darker hair).

I am 37 weeks and have a very faint line. I had to point it out to my husband. I am of east asian descent.

36 weeks and barely noticeable pink line. I'm a brunette with Irish fair skin. I remember that I had a more noticeable line with my first -- and I was pregnant over the summer and in the sun. Both are boys.

I had a huge, dark line with my first child, with the newborn it never showed up.

Mine was not noticeable until after I had the baby and then it stuck around for 6 or 8 mos. I'm really fair so my skin being stretched may have made it not noticeable until after baby arrived.
