I think we're going to go to Baltimore this weekend to the aquarium. What other fun, kid-friendly (age 2 and 4) things are there to do, any recommendations for places to eat, etc?
Thanks! |
Port discovery and the science center are great |
The train museum (B&O railroad museum) is great for kids that age. People will say it's not in a safe part of town but you're driving, I assume, and you drive right into their secure parking lot, so you don't have to worry about finding parking and walking through the neighborhood.

If they are artsy, the Walters Art Museum always has a good free craft activity on the weekend. |
Great idea for 2 & 4 yo! |

Port Discovery is awesome for those age groups. |
Joe Squared Pizza (near Port Discovery) or Noodles and Company (Inner Harbor).
There is no where to eat near B&O museum, eat before you go. They have a cafe which is sometimes open, not guarenteed. I think Aquarium and B&O museum are good to do for the day. I only say that but I think Port Discovery and the B&O museum are a better choice for those ages. Plus aquarium is really expensive and not as hands on as either of the places I mentioned. I may be wrong about how hands on the Aquarium is, I haven't been there in 20 years. Love MD Science Center, wait until the youngest is in 4 or 5. |
Port discovery is having a big president's day think this weekend.
You can't take strollers into the aquarium, FYI. Railroad museum is also good. Neighborhood is dicey, but it's gated parking and fine. |
I agree with this. Aquarium is OK but not worth the money to get in, especially when the little one will not remember it. Unless money is no object, wait a few years--at 2 years old, my kid was more impressed with Petco than the aquarium. |
Thanks for all of these, really helpful! |
The museum is probably too old for them, but Sideshow (the gift shop at American Visionary Arts Museum) is a blast and kids love it. So much fun stuff, and I think you can visit the gift shop without paying the museum admission. |
I third the opinion that the Aquarium is overpriced. It's a great place, just not worth the money. |
2 is a little young for the aquarium I think.
Be aware with port discovery that the climbing apparatus may make you as a parent insane. Kid can go in on floor one and exit on floor two or three. So while they are diligent about not letting a child leave the place unless the armband matches the numbers on a parent band, there will be a fair bit of time when you cannot actually see your kid. Depending on how helicopter-y you are whether that will be a good experience for you or not. And bring extra clothes if you want to let them play in the water table area. |
