Help -- confused about preschool entrance for my toddler

I'm trying to get the hang of preschool application calendar for my DS, who will not turn 2 until mid-October 2008. Does this mean that I should not apply until January 2010 for most preschools that take 3-year-olds? That doesn't seem right to me since he'll turn 3 in October 2009, and will have almost a full year of not doing anything if he's not enrolled in preschool.

Assuming that is the case, can anyone recommend programs for 2+ year-olds that are not year-round, but will take students throughout the year?

You could enroll him in a 2's program in 2009.

I toured a montessori school and the tour guide said the youngest student was an Oct. 2. His parents enrolled him in the school after he turned two, and thankfully for them there was an opening at the time.

Call around some preschools and see what their policies are.
