Violence in Abrahamic texts

I know, I know...at the risk of starting another 40 page debate ?, I post this. I just want to show the fallacy in our thinking:

Like this Christian pastor who quoted Leviticus and said gay people should be murdered? yeah, and he was hosting several republican presidential candidates. There's violence in every religion. But it's very telling "who" embraces and promotes that violence. Why not focus on the GOOD found in all religious texts? (Not you, people in general).

Yup. The Bible is extremely violent. And it can be cherry-picked to support just about any proposition: Jesus is meek and mild; Jesus is a warrior; Jesus loves the little children; Jesus says spank the kids -- you name it.

You really don't know what you're talking about. So many straw men, so little understanding.

A "text analysis tool", huh? Sounds like a great way to understand the meaning and context of scripture.

I don't think you have much understanding of Jesus.

Well the point is, violence in text exists. If people of a certain faith adhere to their religious texts, doesn't that mean they take their religion more seriously? Some may twist the interpretation and misunderstand but lets not pretend any one faith is all hug and forgiveness all the time.

Jesus is never a warrior and never says to spank kids. Not in any text.

Actually, Jesus was pretty much forgiveness all the time.

As God forgave us. Not just for kicks.

I think that was sort of Jesus' motto: "all forgiveness, all the time." And probably there were a lot of hugs.

Jesus would not have turned away refugees fleeing from a war. He also wouldn't support the death penalty or "enhanced" interrogation techniques. He wouldn't have supported war in Iraq or the killing of civilians or the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction. Just sayin'

Jesus said we should all try to be like chikdren--he said nothing about spanking them. Some of you are confusing conservative parenting styles with the type of conservative who wants church to mix in govt.

Agree Jesus would let in refugees and pretty much anybody else.

Jesus is most definitely not a warrior anywhere in the New Testament. I wouldn't trust whatever source you're getting your info from.

Point out the violence in the gospels (well, apart from the crucifixion). TIA
