I'm just getting started with the application process for pre-K and understand I would apply to the common lottery. The information on this page (http://www.myschooldc.org/how-apply/what-you-need-to-apply/) indicates I need one of the following pieces of info for my child for identification:
Your child’s student ID number. You can provide any one of these three types of IDs: If your child is a DCPS student: Student ID If your child is a public charter school student: Unique Student Identifier (USI) Don’t have either? You can use your DC One Card number We are not currently in DC but are planning to move if accepted. Therefore, we have none of those identifiers. Must I call that hotline? Just wanted to be sure I'm doing this right. |
I don't have any of that info. k in charter. I just answered everything else and left that blank. it went through fine. |
| I applied for my child in private school who does not have a DC One card. It wasn't a problem. |
I'd submit and then call to make sure there aren't issues. Shouldn't be but... |
| You will notice that section is not a required field. Leave it blank (confirmed with MSDC). |
| You don't need them. |

You can't apply if you're not a DC resident, unless you're a military family.
Here is what it says in the FAQ: "Can I apply if I am not a DC resident? Only residents of the District of Columbia are eligible to receive a free public education in the District. All parents and guardians are required to verify residency each year. This process is regulated by the Office of the State Superintendent for Education (OSSE). On the My School DC application, you have the option of applying without a DC address. If you use this option, you will not receive in-boundary or proximity preferences. If you are matched with a school through the lottery, you must accept your space by May 2. Accepting your space requires submitting required enrollment forms and proving DC residency. Families who move to the District after the lottery can apply to individual schools using the My School DC post-lottery application. Families currently living outside of the United States will need to apply using a U.S. address. For more information, please call the My School DC Hotline at (202) 888-6336, or email info.myschooldc@dc.gov. " |
| Reading that again, I think you can apply but your odds are not good. You prob need to call the hotline to ask what to do about the lack of an ID. |
| Wait - your entering the lottery and you don't live in DC or have any documentation (lease etc.) to show you will live in DC at the start of the school year. Are you entering an out of state address into the application? Is that even allowed? |
|
You may not have either of those if your kid is not currently in school.
Leave blank. |
Please read your own post PP. You can apply with non DC address but you won't get proximity or IB preference and you must prove your DC residence by May 2. |
Did you read? She's going to move to the city depending on her post-lottery school options. |
Odds are the same as anyone entering without IB preference. You new moms need to learn the rules before repeating misinformation. |
Yes, because the family can move to DC. Chances are just as good as getting into a charter and oob, but won't have the in fallback. (just be sure to remember to actually move to DC by May OP . . . ) |
You are putting the cart before the horse. You need to move into the district to be eligible to apply for the lottery. You can't do it the other way around because otherwise people would apply, take the spot, and then "plans would change" and they wouldn't be able to move to the district. Right now you are not eligible to apply until you have established residence . |
