Free Credit Report

I want to obtain a copy of my credit reports and there are several websites that come up when I do a search. Is there one site that is known to be "official" and reputable?

Sorry, that one's owned by Experian. annualcreditreport.com is the one listed by the FTC.

+1

If you want your credit score, you have to pay for it.

I have a capital one credit card and I can see my credit score and credit report any time I want for free through capital one.

That's powered by Experian and not your real score. Real scores are provided through AMEX, Discover and Citibank.

Different poster, but I have wondered how accurate this really is. I get my scores through Transunion monthly and see a huge difference (50 or so points) between what Capital One is claiming and what I see on Transunion. There are different models out there for scores.

There is no one "credit score" - even FICO is just a methodology that changes with the inputs. Your score will differ depending on who or what is calculating it. A credit score from any one of the big consumer reporting agencies, however, will give you an idea of where you are.

Unless you're purchasing a FICO score from TransUnion, they're not giving you it either. They're just giving you "their" score. So...useless.

If you want to know your FICO score for sure, go to www.myfico.com.

Not true. These agencies use their own internal scoring system based on your report with them. Their scores are useless.

Has anyone used creditkarma? I've seen ads on tv.

Once you get to the point where "enter your credit card number" pops up, then you know you are on the wrong site. Just got my report and was not asked for credit card. Credit scores are free from several credit cards. I think all 3 I have come from different companies. They do differ quite a lot, but not buying anything any time soon so I' let them be.

I just used it last week, worked fine. Credit score given, took about 5 minutes. Free.

Experian uses a FICO score if you create an account on their site and pay for it monthly.

Annualcreditreport.com is the real free one. I check once a year, around my birthday. I have found errors before and corrected them.
