Gainesville, FL. Where to stay for a weekend?

Umm, Gainesville? There are tons of hotels due to the University. Basically pick your chain, with all sorts except perhaps ultra luxury available.

Depending on why you are going, you could consider staying in Micanopy, which is a very cute historic town about 15 miles out of town. It's where "Doc Hollywood" was filmed all those years ago. There is a nice B&B called the Herlong Mansion; there are probably other B&Bs too.

If you are with kids, just pick a place with a pool. If you're going to be on the University campus, the student union has a hotel and that can be fun, because in the union there is a bowling alley and some other fun stuff kids might like.

Ditto. What's your reason for going?

My alma mater too! Go Gators! Seriously, you won't find any " special" hotels in "The Swamp." The Hilton Conference center is in the heart of campus, the rooms are nice, clean, and the lobby bar is great. That's about as good as it gets in G-ville!

There are a few nice b&bs too.
