Books that model positive social interaction between elem age children?

My 8 yr old son has mild social anxiety, I think. He feels uncomfortable with those he doesn't know well, feels the need to do something to interact with them but often just acts silly instead of having a calm interaction(especially if in a group). Other times he clams up and will respond but seems at a loss to remeber details if an adult he doesnt know asks him a question. ( like what sports he plays, my son freezes and will look like a deer in headlights snd them say one sport when he plays at least four but not at the same time)
I will say that this has gotten easier gor him over the past two years and is much more comfortable speaking with my friends then he was at age 6. He is an avid reader and I would like to get him some books that deal with socisl issues for the early elem age range. The problem as I see it, is many books that deal with socisl issues focus on bullying or extreme discord which I don't think my son would enjoy reading about. It would make him feel uncomfortable because he is quite sensitive. What I am looking for is books that display relaxed and happy interations between children. The sort of interactions one wants to be a part of. Books that model what kids should do. If any books that fit this bill come to mind please tell me about them. Thank you! |

No suggestions, but I do agree with you. We gave up trying to find books about upper elementary/middle school not centered around bullies and bad behaviors. We found modeling conversations worked well with my son. We'd pretend to be some other kid and guide him through conversations. |
