I am also interested in learning more about this daycare/pre-school. It seems well run and I know of some people who have their toddler there and are happy with it. I'm on the waitlist for a spot in September.

Hi,

My son went there for two weeks in September of '07 and it was a horrible experience. I took him out the second week he was there. It was especially hard since I had just started back to work and he was so little (on 3 months old). I could go on and on but the most severe issue was the complete lack of communication with the staff. For example, on his daily sheet it said that he was drinking all his bottles for a few days. I talked to a teacher though and she said he wasn't eating anything. When I questioned her about the sheet - she said that they said "all" because they were pouring the remaining milk out. How ridiculous is that??? It makes me really angry just thinking of it again. Also, one teacher said that my son cried alot like "someone had hit him." Okay NOT the wording you want to use with a new parent. In general, it seemed like the teachers were extremely underqualified. I am at the RCC now and love it. I sincerely hope you don't go through a similar experience with any daycare. In addition, they recently got a violation for giving a toddler second degree burns after heating her food up to hot in the microwave.

I have to post after reading this last post. I think I know who you are and I think you may have had some separation anxiety from your child (if you are who I think you are).

We have been at Funshine for nearly a year and a half and we are very happy. The teachers are very loving and my baby is very happy. Some of the teachers have been there for over 20 years! They have a nice playground outside and the toddlers play outside when the weather is nice. In the baby classroom, I found that they did a great job of playing with all of the babies. My toddler is "higher maintenance" and seems to like to be held A LOT. It makes it a lot easier to do drop off when the teachers hold out their arms for my daughter to get a nice hug and a hold in the morning. They are happy to accommodate higher need children.

Funshine is great and the directors are very hands-on. It is not in the most glamorous building, but the kids are happy and the older siblings of the kids in my daughter's class seem very happy and well-adjusted!

PP here. Where is the violation posted? I could not find it. My daughter is in the toddler classroom and I have NEVER observed any such behavior.

Hi PP,

This is the OP. To see the violation follow this link http://www.dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/licensed.cgi?rm=Details;ID=21639;search_keywords_name=funshine.
Also, I don't think it was seperation anxiety because I went to another daycare right afterwards and have had a great experience. Honestly, I'm glad your experience was different. This was only my opinion. And the two example I gave definitely happened.

Again, I am so sorry to hear that your experience was not good. We have been very happy and even more so the longer we are there. Glad to hear that daycare adjustment is going better for you.

Out of curiousity, if you are the OP, then why did you ask in the first place? Are you the OP and did you also respond to yourself with the posting about a bad experience. Weird.

My mistake, I didn't mean OP - I meant the poster with the bad experience
