Sport rec for ADD inattentive child

Anonymous
Can anyone recommend a sport that really worked for their ADD-inattentive kid? My kid always feels great after he exercises and he is an avid swimmer, but he hates competitive sports. I am trying to figure out if an individual sport might be a good idea, or if I should push him to just try a team sport that competes and see what happens. He really tunes out when it is something with a lot of down time (like baseball), even though he loves going to the ballpark. He just turned 10.

Mine loves karate, basketball (lots of action, quick movements, and a big ball) and baseball - a surprise, I know, and I know your son doesn't enjoy it, but I mention it only to suggest not to write anything off - my ds has trouble keeping attention but he is so obsessed with baseball that he compensates. Agree with the track rec although a team can be hard to find for a 10 yr old. Bike riding is also great. Also wanted to suggest that your son try kayaking or sailing in the spring since he loves swimming - sailing can be so fun, enjoyable solo but he also can compete later if he becomes interested.

I'm pp - I just saw the fitness for health post and that reminded me to suggest agility or tumbling classes - Fitness for Health or Dynamite are good places to check out classes.

My just turned 10-yr w/ADHD likes and is good at football and wrestling. But he's super energized.

Individual sports work much better for my kid than team sports. Too much multitasking in a team sport.

My kid with ADD-PI loves football. It's hard to "space out" with all that sensory input and sense of urgency.

Something like swimming or cross country where you are maintaining form for long periods of time is incredibly boring to him, not really any different than maintaining attention to homework, which is not a strength.

Fitness for Health, Dynamite, and a third similar place, MoCo movement, are all next to white flint.
