I have had angular cheilitis for almost a year. I've seen a dermatologist and tried steroid creams, antifungals creams, antifungal pills and NSAID creams. The treatments work for a few weeks then return. My diet is healthy and I don't have any vitamin deficiencies. There are a ton of home remedies online and I was wondering if anyone had any firsthand experience with this. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. |
B12 supplement helped me even though my labs were normal. |
I had it once, and iron supplements helped me. I was surprised that it worked, but it did. It does not take too long to clear it up; a few days. I believe. |
Thanks. Taking B supplements already. Will report back if any of the home remedies I try work. |
If you sleep with your mouth open, the area might be remaining moist for too long. I used a liquid bandage once to keep it covered and it was gone in two days. You can buy liquid bandage in the first aid section of the pharmacy. You paint it on like nail polish. |
I've tried this and got rid of it in a day. Just not sure how long to keep doing it now.
Qtip the corners with peroxide. Dab coconut oil on the corners. Cover with vaseline. Been doing this twice a day and all symptoms are gone. I don't if this is a cure or temporary treatment. I'll probably do it for a few weeks and then just use vaseline at night and see what happens. |
The only thing that works for me is an antibiotic ointment! Mupirocin is what I get. I had the same experience of doctors assuming it was fungal, but an actual dermatologist prescribed the antibiotic and it works like a charm. I still go through periods where it comes back a few times a year, but with the Mupirocin it starts to heal within hours usually. |
Well my coconut oil regimen worked for a week and now it's back. I'll ask my doc about mupirocin. any other home remedy recs i can do myself? thanks. |
This worked for me (similar to above): Before bed, use a small amount of dish soap to wash affected area. Let it dry completely. This means sitting around for a minute or two with your mouth open to let it dry so your saliva doesn't reintroduce moisture. Then put on lots of vaseline. Then go to sleep so you will not disturb it. The idea behind this is that the fungus needs moisture to grow. The dish soap dries it out and then the vaseline locks out moisture. In a totally dry environment the fungus will die. Good luck! |
Do you wear a retainer or night guard? If so, clean it with denture cleaner. Replace your toothbrush and toothpaste. In addition, I have success with rubbing a little bit of Triple Paste AF (anti-fungal) into the corners of my mouth before bed every night for a week. |
I can get rid of it easily but it pops up 3-4 times per year. |
My child had irritation on the corner of his mouth - looked like impetigo so we used mupirocin to get rid of it, but as soon as we stopped the irritation came back and now looks like angular chelitis. He has braces.
Should I be worried about using small amounts of Mupirocin for weeks on end? Was thinking a combination of cortisone and petroleum jelly would be better? |
I tried everything but nothing worked until I used: original Listerine(amber colored), hydrogen peroxide, and liquid bandage(night only). I put Listerine on it first with a q-tip and let it dry, then do the same with peroxide. Do this a few times during the day. At night, clean it again and apply liquid bandage on the corners of your mouth while keeping your mouth open half way while it drys. It helps at night to protect the corners of your mouth in case you drool. For me it clears up in 2-3 days. Only flares up twice a year now and not as much as it did before. |
