MC Infants and Toddlers-Time between intake and evaluation?

DS' ped told me to call EI/infants and toddlers and do an intake for a possible speech delay. At intake they said they would come evaluate him within 45 days, but it could be sooner. Does anyone have recent experience with timing and how the process works? Do they call to schedule something for the same week or weeks in advance? I'm concerned about making sure I can take off work in time.
