Low income kid scores perfect on AP Calc test-great story of the day

Anonymous
All from his own hard work...

"Cedrick, the son of a Salvadoran maintenance worker and a Filipina nurse, had scored perfectly on his Advanced Placement Calculus exam. Of the 302,531 students to take the notoriously mind-crushing test, he was one of only 12 to earn every single point....from Lincoln High, a school of about 1,200 students in the heavily Latino Lincoln Heights neighborhood."

Great story! It seems the math instructor is a real gem as well.

~All 21 of Yom’s AP Calculus students who took the exam last year passed; 17 got the highest score of 5. It was the third year in a row that all of Yom’s kids passed the test.

And this from a GS rated 6 school. GS shows the school has 73% Hispanic; 25% Asian. No black or white kids. Whopping 85% FARMS rate. ELL 20%.

Goes to show, ratings don't show the whole picture. As long as the teachers are great, and you want to learn, you can have a great education.

His teacher is amazing too. Helping his Calculus class study for hours after school. Buying them shirts with all their names printed on every shirt to wear to the AP test just like a sports team, but a math team.

These are the ideas that need to be spread though. What it actually takes to achieve this level of achievement. He obviously went above the time requirement that the school day had. Not every teacher can do that, nor should they have to.

Well, yes. But what if they aren't? What if they're just regular human beings? An education policy for poor kids that relies on teachers being great and putting in tons of extra hours is an education policy that will fail.

Evidently PP thinks that "Asian" is a dominant gene.

Although, of course, there are also Hispanic people of Asian ancestry. I wonder how the PP deals with that.
