Excellent grades open the door to endless opportunities. If there is one thing you can encourage and help your player with, whether it's tutoring, time management, better class placement, they MUST keep their grades as high as they can. The player will be passed over, no matter how well they play, if their grades are poor! The competition is fierce, and there is always a better player out there with higher grades! It makes the coach's job easier: all things being equal, they will always take the player with the higher grades or bump them to a tier one versus a tier 2.

KM never had a problem getting MCE in to schools. Or her SR players. For sure you get more exposure playing club than not, though I can see someone not interested in playing that game.

So over the last 4 years of recruiting (2022-2026), how many SR players not coming from Capital or top MD clubs committed to play at big time academics? Is it zero?

KM takes the lead on all SR recruiting , and JB from Capital, for example, plays no role in the recruiting for SR players, right? That’s what I have seen suggested from some very knowledgeable M&D DC supoorters.

I am interested to know who takes the lead on recruiting. Is is usually the club recruiting director, or the high school coach? In the case of the 2026 SR Yale commit, who took the lead? Was is Capital or SR? I appreciate Yale may have talked to various people, but what I want to know is who was was the primary/point person. Thank you for helping me understand the process!

Assuming this is a serious ask, which is usually a big assumption on here, it's generally best to keep individual players out of it unless you want to speak for your own daughter. Of course, that rule is often neglected on plenty of subjects on DCUM.

Anyway, you'll likely get counsel from both or either a h.s. and club coach if you ask for it. How, when, where, what.
The biggest positive of club lacrosse is the ability to be seen as that's "recruiting season".
As you may have found out, on top of that there's other avenues including prospect camps. And film.

The best thing you can do is be proactive and get your stuff up to snuff with peers. Film, contact info, making a well-worded email to schools of interest, follow up with schedule.

The schools, if they think she's in the ballpark, will either get out to see her or hit one or both of her h.s./club contacts to ask about:
- whether they should take the time
- what her off the field makeup is, character

Or, they will see her while looking at someone else, or at a larger event.

Anyway, in all likelihood they'll be in touch with both a club and definitely a h.s. contact to inquire about her as a person.

Having no red flags is a big plus, in addition to talent. College coaches will respect an initial position on talent evaluation to go SEE someone, but in no way, shape or form are they taking a player because someone "took point" and sold them on a recruit. They will evaluate players' ability themselves.

I understand grades are important, but do the coaches look purely at Gpa or also school? Public school GPAs are much higher than say Big 3-5 privates. So if talent is equal will the kid with a 4.3 at a public be considered over a kid with a 3.6 at a top private?

Every college has an intricate idea what any school's curriculum includes, what courses including AP are available, and how grades are dispersed, college entry numbers, etc. Then there's class rank and board scores.

They will get reads on all of that from admissions. And of course in the case of some schools like Ivies, they'll have to meet their AI numbers, which largely will mean + or - one standard deviation from the school pop.

But outside of Ivies, they're not taking or choosing between players for grades. On the field, it's never equal and they'll be choosing based on that if players can get in.
