Is your area in FCPS still bad?

I am hoping someone responds that it is still a mess where they are...I have been through Annandale, Fairfax, Tysons, and McLean with no issues. I do not understand why school has been cancelled for today AND tomorrow and I am genuinely curious if there are neighborhoods still struggling.

Just accept that you need to make child care arrangements for the rest of the week.

I'm in Vienna. Some two lane roads are only 1.5 lanes. The two elementary schools I've passed are not ready to receive students or teachers.

all streets in out neighborhood are a single lane. I can't imagine a bus being able to make a turn it is so narrow. and we are inside the beltway, can't imagine what places further out are like.

My neighborhood in Burke is a mess. Single lane roads with half the sidewalks unshoveled. Kids would have to walk 3/4 of a mile to get to a solidly cleared portion of road, walking in the street for most of it.

+1

Even Broad Street, a busy main street was only 1 lane this morning.

+1 here in Annandale. The main roads are clear, but buses surely will have difficulties making their way through neighborhoods, and turning from one street onto another will be a mess (or result in a bus stuck in a snowbank).

All the wet roads and puddles are going to freeze overnight and create a mess. Today is safer than tomorrow.

I am the OP and I meant to post about tomorrow and Friday. Sorry for the added confusion.

I appreciate the replies with added information. I also read the FCPS statement and while it does make sense, I am wondering what really can be done? If people have not shoveled their sidewalks by now I am guessing they won't ever do them. Parents do have the option of driving their child if they think the sidewalks are unsafe.

And can someone tell me why SACC cannot open? It's run by the county for WORKING PARENTS.

Not all parents have that option. If the school provides busing it has to provide transportation to everyone to get to school safely.

It's fine. I work for a private company and every single employee made it in.

Go take a trip around the county. My kids' bus stop has a massive mound and not one sidewalk area is cleared to either get to the bus stop OR to wait for it. Kids at our stop would need to walk in the middle of the road (as both sides are covered partially in snow) and then wait in the road to be picked up.

Oh, and now imagine doing that in the dark, around 6:45 a.m. when the junior high kids are going to our bus stop.
