A friend recently told me that if you buy a new construction home from a builder that the buyer is responsible for the commission to the buyers agent. Is that true?? That is the first I have heard of such a thing. We live in Arlington and my friend lives in the Tidewater area of Virginia.

If you've got a buyer's agent, you are responsible for the commission. The seller may negotiate a deal to cover the cost, but in general seller pays for seller's agent commission, buyer pays for buyer's agent commission.

No. The seller pays the commission to his agent and your agent.
Home buildings generally pay the buyer's agent commission. Thats why it says on many ads "brokers welcome." Especially in this economy, they'd be dumb not to pay it - many people looking at new construction don't have buyer's agents.
