will snow days delay notification about HS magnet acceptances?

Anyone in the know about this year's process or who can speak from past experience?

Not totally sure how accurate my memory is, but DD got her CAP letter in 2014, a year of many snow days. I feel like the letters were delayed slightly, just by a few days. Like we were expecting the letters on Monday or Tuesday and they arrived on Thursday or Friday.

They absolutely can not delay the letters too long because school info sessions start happening in the next few weeks.

This is what is worrying me. I know our home school expects 8th graders to register for classes by the beginning of February so I imagine the magnet programs will not want to postpone the deadline for students to say yea or nay. I guess I am mostly worried that the students will not get as much time to make the decision if they get one or more acceptances.

8th graders always register as if they are attending their home school..then they adjust if they end up at a different school.

You 8th grader will register just like everyone else. If there is a change- let the home school know. It is a non-issue.

Yes they will.
I know about one selecting committee that supposed to work this Friday. I am not sure that even still happening, since some kids even did not had finals yet.
Letters definitely are going to be delayed. But maximum for one week.

Bump. Any further predictions on this?

If that school's selection committee is meeting this week and the meeting is cancelled, it could delay notifications.

The past 2 years, the yes letters were all dated Jan 31 (I know because my 2 kids got into RM & Blair and they are 1 year apart)

I hope you are right - that would be wonderful if we hear next week as planned.
We just got a letter from our home high school encouraging ds to register and this has led to a lot of fruitless speculation about where he will end up next year. I hope the magnet letters are sent out next week as planned.

I've got kids in HS & Ms magnets, you still register for home school while waiting for the news...

Remember, administrative offices have been open these past few days. I'm sure the names have been chosen already and now it's just the administrative task of getting all the letters out, which I believe comes from the central office not the individual schools. Like the PP said, it may be a day or two delayed due to backups at the post office, etc, but shouldn't be more than that. I predict you get word on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks for the info. I am curious to know whether your letters included your child's test results. These were included when my child received acceptances for the MS magnets and it helped us decide which one he would attend - he scored well above the median for one and at or just above the median for the other. This wasn't the main consideration but it helped us draw a contrast between the programs in terms of his fit.
