| Hello all, I have a consult appointment scheduled with Dr. Davis in two weeks. I am trying to decide if I need to be there in person or via telephone. If you have had your consultation with Dr. Davis, what was your experience via person/telephone? Thank you! |
| I did mine in person in 2011 - he did the transvaginal US and exam and ordered a ton of blood work that I did right there. Then I got a tour and met with the finance lady. It was no biggie for my dh and me to get up to NY though and we knew we were going to use Davis (fsh >27) - honestly I think phone would be fine. |
| OP here. How long were you there for your appointment? Did you know ahead of time that you will get an exam and labwork? |
| I had a phone consult with Dr. Davis in October. At the time, we weren't sure if we would definitely switch to Cornell, and if we did, we figured we would end up spending enough money trekking back and forth, so a phone consult to start off would be just fine. And it was great! I had my records to them a week or so in advance, and he came VERY prepared to the call. He had clearly combed through my records and went through a very detailed protocol he would have me follow. Obviously he discussed what he would have done differently from my RE at Shady Grove. I came prepared with a long list of questions, and he answered most of them (without me asking) before I had the chance to ask. All told, we were on the phone for close to an hour. I didn't have to end up doing a lot of extra blood work, since Shady Grove had me do most of the same stuff earlier. We pretty much started with my protocol on my next cycle, without having even gone up yet. |
| PP: Thank you for the information. It was very helpful. Are you willing to talk to me about your experience cycling at Cornell? |
| i would suggest doing it in person. |
|
I would really, really try to do it in person. Going to Cornell for IVF is a huge emotional and financial decision. You want to be as informed as possible and I think it really helps to be there and meet him in person. He talks a mile a minute so I also think it will be easier to absorb all the info in person. Bring a list of questions and a pen and paper to take notes.
Use the day of the consult as an excuse for a fun day in NYC - I recommend the Frick which is nearby and does not allow young children in the museum. I cycled with Dr Davis in 2010 and have twins because of it. He truly is the best in the business. And has great bedside manner too (and always returned calls promptly during the cycle). Good luck! |
9:47 here. Sure. |

Pp here - sorry for delay - I am not regularly on these boards anymore but it had caught my eye a few days ago so meant to check back. I did not know about exam or blood work. I had been at Dominion and Davis felt there were some very important blood tests that they had not run (mostly genetic ones for whites if European descent that I can't remember anymore). The pelvic US was v similar to Dominionbut I liked that he looked under the hood too. I want to say we were there around two hours? We had to meet with finance lady last and that took a bit too. |
| I was at SG prior to Davis and I remember Davis asking for extra genetic tests too (this was 6 years ago). |
