Why are the Fulltime Workers cleaning planes for United Airlines at National Airport getting paid only $10/hr?

This is completely OUTRAGEOUS. It's not like the airlines haven't been raking in BIG bucks for decades. Top execs are still getting HUGE bonuses and almost unlimited first class flight benefits for themselves and their friends.

How would anyone live on $10/hr in the DC area? Get social services so the airline industry can keep making share holders richer? So we're footing the bill for their enormous profits?... In more ways than one.

This is a SHAMEFUL outrage.

Because Virginia doesn't like unions?

The answer to your question, OP, is that the people are easily replaceable so they don't have to pay those workers that much. It's unskilled labor, and unskilled labor generally pays for shit. I don't really understand your umbrage.

If an airplane janitor desires and is qualified to obtain a job that pays more than $10/hour they will do so.

If an airplane janitor that makes $10/hour quits or is fired, there will be a huge pool of applicants praying they can land that job.

Read a book once in a while.

There are a lot of low paying jobs that deserve to have a higher pay. As an RN, I find it shocking that CNAs start at $11 an hour at my hospital. And this is considered skilled labor considering they have to be licensed. I couldn't do my job without them! It does make me wonder what will happen if/when establishments Like McDs raise their rate higher than what CNAs make. I mean...flipping burgers for a higher pay or changing incontinent pads on a regular basis...what do you think people will do?

That is one janitor job that should pay well. Does a TSA person check their work or inspect the plane? What if they are in collusion with terrorists or are terrorists?

Because most people are just grateful for a job who need one.

Because DCA is not in DC where the minimum wage is $10.50 an hour going up to 11.50 this July.

Still NOT a living wage for this area. Shame on them.

Can you provide the information that says that is what they are paid? Do they get pay increases? Benefits? Lots of factors. Are they paid by United or a contractor?

Paid by United. Zero benefits. It was on the evening news.
What's your point? -OP

Because I find it hard to believe. For one thing, m ost of the work is done by contractors hired by the airlines. That does not excuse the low pay, but they are not normally paid by the airline directly.

My point is that $10/hr is unconscionable.

If Walmart workers deserve a living wage (and they do,)
certainly United Airline cleaning people deserve a living wage. -OP

Please cite your source. I really want to learn more about this. All you are giving us is one piece of information that you say was on the evening news. Which evening news? I've searched and cannot find it.
