A couple of questions. (1) Did you get a repeat course of antibiotics if the first round didn't work? I've got some horrible virus/(maybe bacteria) now that's giving me a cough from hell. Plus I got pink eye from it. It doesn't seem to be getting better and I've been sick a week. My doc didn't give me antibiotics, though.
(2) Were you tested for parainfluenza or RSV? Both seem to take a very long time to get over. They have tests for them, similar to strep. And did you get tested for strep?
When I was getting sinus infections, my doc gave me antibiotics and told me to go on the real Sudafed (the kind you sign for), for 10 days straight, plus take Mucinex (the cough expectorant, not suppressant), to thin all the mucus in my sinus passages. Again, for 10 days, even if feeling better. So that's what I just started yesterday. And I do hot (as I can make it) salt water gargles a couple of times a day. I do this for lingering colds, too.
I also work on boosting immunity to help my body naturally fight it. Lots of liquids, lots of sleep, a boost like Airborne or whatever you prefer (not sure if it helps but it doesn't hurt). And light exercise outside when I can. Like a 20 minute walk. The fresh air and sunlight help, and it gets you out of the house. Indoors are incubators for all the germs.
I also change bed linens every couple of days while sick. Pillow cases and towels daily. Toothbrush goes, too. I get a couple of cheap ones to last me until I'm better. And then I go back to my normal brand.
