How messy/awful of a job is stripping finish off ceramic floors and resealing?

I am wondering how messy/awful of a job is stripping the finish off ceramic tile floors, cleaning them to get off water stains from a bathroom leak upstairs (where water got all in the kitchen below), and then resealing them. We would have a professional do this but my understanding is that chemical stripper is nasty and toxic, and then often they use paint thinner to clean up the mess. Then sealing. Can someone tell me about their experiences?
