Is it too late to start the admissions process?

Anonymous
My 6th grader is struggling in her large public middle school and it's becoming increasingly clear that she needs to be in a smaller environment with more attention paid to her. Are we too late to start the admissions process? She is likely not a candidate for the more competitive schools (nor would she likely do well there) so I am thinking of looking at some of the smaller, less rigorous schools. Does anyone have any insight into the process? We are in MoCo.
Thank you.

I don't think it's too late. Call the admissions offices of nearby schools.

Some of the K-8 schools might not have full classes, even if their admissions processes have technically ended. K-8 schools can be really nurturing for kids who need a small environment. Our DC attended a K-8 school for middle school (after public elementary), and it was a wonderful experience in every way. Good luck OP!

Several school have deadlines of 1/15 or 1/22. And will cut you slack on getting the transcripts in as long as you get the core application in before then.

Call Burke....it fits your description perfectly and they often take late applications...getting FA might be a problem at this late date, however. Many kids like your daughter thrive there and it is right on the red line.

Agree! Our K-8 has an open house coming up next week, so definitely not too late. And there are almost always kids who come into 7th (and very occasionally, 8th grade).

Definitely call any school that you are interested in.

Its not too late. I've several times got applications in just under the wire (a few days before the Jan 31 deadline) and it hasn't hindered us.

No, but act immediately.

Green Acres is still accepting applications. I believe they have middle school openings.

Green Acres has openings because the administration is a hot mess. The head of school hired a lower school teacher who had no presence and no impact and more recently hired a middle school head who is woefully underqualified. The middle school attrition rate is very high. Ask.

So probably not the kind of openings the OP is going to want then...

Disagree. Green Acres family here. We love the middle school head!
