New role, and it's a new position. What do I ask?

Anonymous
Looking for some strategic advice. I'm moving into a new role that's also a new position. Would prefer not to go into detail.

What are some general high-level strategic questions I can ask my new supervisor to set myself up for success? What I've come up with so far include asking what her vision is for this role, what she thinks should be accomplished 1, 3, and 12 months out, and what existing issues there are that this role should address/resolve.

Any BTDT people who started in a new role with a newly created position recently who can share challenges and what you wish you'd known?

Thanks for any and all advice!

OP again, I realize this is a little cryptic. It's a management position for a new department. Just don't want to share details and get recognized!

ask about the department goals and how she thinks you can contribute to them

Ask why the position is being created.

Ask how success will be measured in 12 months.

Ask about the company's financial health and 3-5 year plan.
