I have crispy hair. I have tried washing it only once or twice a week. I limit my use of hair dryers, etc. to maybe one or twice a month. I do use home color - my hair (and gray roots) grow out so fast I need to touch up every 2 weeks.
I generally use drugstore products but have yet to find something that will make my hair silkier. Can anyone recommend something that can help? This really hit home the other day when my niece started playing with my hair and exclaimed to everyone "Your hair is crispy - grose". |
| I like Nutragena's Triple Moisture leave in conditioner and the once/week conditioning hair mask. I have more course (not crisp) hair due to some curl and my hair is not dry at all. |

I have always had thick, coarse hair and really appreciate Aveda's hair products in general. (I'm not such a big fan of their skincare and makeup products, so it isn't just brand loyalty!) For me, the "Be Curly" line works well, but before that was available I used "Sap Moss" and other intensive conditioning lines.
I don't know of a product specifically for the natural coarsening of hair as we age, but I would bet that a stylist or sales person at Aveda could make some suggestions. Keep us posted, because it's coming for all of us. Gray hair is supposed to be coarser, but for me, I don't see how that's going to be possible! |

Beverly Hills Rescue conditioner works well on my hair. After blow drying I follow up with a little Framesi Slush Gloss, this really smooths, shines and softens my coarse hair.
A flat iron also works wonders as on top of being coarse and thick, my hair is wavy. |

I actually have recently started not using shampoo, only using conditioner and then once or twice a week, using a mix of apple cider vinegar and water. It sounds gross, but honestly, my hair is a lot softer and really not too greasy. You can look on-line re: no-poo for information on not using shampoo.
And let me add as a caveat, I am not the type to not use soap, shampoo, not shave my legs, etc. I love products! But I was really frustrated with my dry hair. |

Get a leave in spray on conditioner. Use it daily. I like Paul Mitchells Awpuhi spray on.

| How often do you get it cut, OP? I find that my hair is much smoother and more manageable, regardless of what processes I do to it (like color), if I get the ends trimmed faithfully every 6 weeks. |
| Clairol Nice 'N Easy Color Seal. It's the same super-rich conditioner that they include in the haircolor box, but now they sell it separately as well. Shiny blue tube. |
13:38 here - I forgot to mention that I do this, too. About twice a week I use shampoo (more often in the summer), but only a small amount and try to only massage my scalp with it, not the length of my hair, but I do wet and condition my hair almost daily. |
| Try Kerastase Repair line. It is pricey but I find it well worth the money. |

put coconut oil in your hair for a half an hour then wash well, it should be warm though.
or you can go to any indian market and buy a hair oil called Dabur, its green and it stinks but it does wonders. |
| I use Aussie Moist Conditioner--both as a regular rinse-out conditioner & then a bit as a leave-in as well. Cheap & good. |
| I think your hair coloring is destroying your hair. If your hair has reached the "crispy" stage, it should be cut off, not amount/special type of conditioner is going to fix this problem. I did the same thing to my own hair after frequently coloring it in college, after cutting it off and finding away to get professionally colored less-often (I got highlights so my roots don't show as quickly, now I only have to color my hair every 2 months, vs needing a touch-up every month with all over color)--my hair is so much more healthy. |
| Google "Feria hair conditioner by L'oreal" This stuff is the best!! I have tried everything mentioned by previous posters and nothing compares to this stuff. I too have hair that has a tendency to get crispy. It can be hard to find. I get mine at a local beauty supply store. I go through a couple of tubes pretty quickly so I buy in bulk. And it is affordable about 8-9$ a tube. |
| i use pureology nanoworks shampoo, conditioner and treatment, they are pricey but my hair is silky and soft, you only need a little bit, good luck. |
