Review of Clermont Elementary?

Anonymous
Please offer a review of Clermont Elementary. Looking to buy a home on Governors Hill Dr. We are a mixed family - white/asian. We've heard good things about the principal. What is the school like? The PTA? Are you happy there even if your child doesn't get into AAP?

This neighborhood doesn't get much traffic on this board. I have no first hand experience with Clermont, so can't help.

That's too bad.

I lived across the street in Governors Grove. We moved out before oldest started K. Before we bought I checked out the school and thought is was OK. It has a lot of ESOL students, but it seems that white kids were doing fine.

Having said that, after living in Givernors Grove (and socially a few families always come from Governors Hill for various gatherings) for 4 years, I have not seen a family who sent there kids to public schools from those developments. The 5 families with school aged kids that I knew there sent their kids to private: for HS it was clearly decision agains Edison, for elementary I think it is because parents like that better (there is a private school right on Telegraph road almost within walking distance, name escapes me right now, but that where most of elementary kids go). Maybe those developments have parents who can easily afford it.

We moved out partially because of schools, partially because we outgrew our townhouse.

I don't have first hand experience with the school. We used to live nearby and yes, sent our children to private schools. I can say that DS had a few friends that ended up going to K there and the parents were happy. We ended up losing touch over the years. You are going to get a mix of families going to public and private schools.

Thank you.

We love the school. It is very diverse, and there are ESOL students, but I like the diversity. One of my children is at the AAP school now (Springfield Estates) but I have one still at Clermont. The teachers are great and we love our neighborhood. It's a great location: close to old town, 395, the Beltway, Wegmans, shopping, restaurants etc. I think it's a hidden gem. Also love Twain, the MS.

Our son is in the first grade in Clermont Elementary now. He is doing ok there. PTA is active in my opinion. We can see that our son's reading skills is improving, and the teacher is easy to communicate with via email. I am still observing....

20:32 again. The neighborhood really is a hidden gem for price and convenience. So are Wilton Woods, Bush Hill and Brookland.

Would you be happy with the school if your remaining child did not get into AAP?

Can you talk about Twain. I know people from years back didn't have nice things to say but as of late all the people I meet who have kids there really seem to be happy. What changed? What do you love about it?
