What is considered DPO1?

Anonymous
Probably a silly question but I'm new to all the TTC terminology. I've been using fertility strips that say 'positive indicates ovulation likely to occur in 12-24 hours.' Do I consider the first day I get a 'positive' to be O day and the following day to be DPO1?

Thanks!

I think it's usually the day after your first positive, but you can only confirm it with charting.

Agree with PP that the only way to know for sure is by temping/charting.

But to answer your question, assume that ovulation occurs the day after you get a positive on an OPK if the strips you use say ovulation will occur within 12-24 hours. If you get a positive today, ovulation is (theoretically) tomorrow, and 1 DPO is Wednesday.

With that said, the month I got my BFP I was using the Clearblue digital OPKs. I got a smiley on CD 14 and yet temping showed I didn't ovulate until 2 days later (CD 16). Really, temping and tracking cervical fluid is the best way to figure out when you're ovulating. I would recommend charting above OPKs any day.

Good luck, OP!

Thank you PPers. I have been using OPKs for 5 months now with no success so I will start looking into charting if I don't get a BFP on Thursday. I had assumed OPKs tell you the same thing as charting but it seems like that's not the case. I used OPKs only when I conceived DS 3 years ago but it looks like I'm going to have to pull out all the tricks this time unfortunately.

If you haven't read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," I highly recommend it. Good luck!

+1 to reading TCOYF.

For what it's worth, OP, I found charting to be incredibly easy and *less* stressful than OPKs...because it gave me better info than the OPKs and I didn't have to worry about holding my pee.

Thanks again everyone. I will be ordering TCOYF on Thursday IF there's no BFP. Holding out hope that I won't be heading to Amazon Thursday...
