book suggestions for a Captain Underpants fan, but easier to read

Anonymous
I'm looking for book suggestions for my first grader who has recently discovered a love of reading thanks to Captain Underpants. While a potty-talking super hero in his skivvies is not exactly my idea of fine fiction, the Captain has my son sneaking away with a book at all hours of the day, so I can't deny his value.

Any suggestions for other series that might pique his interest? He is also pretty into Magic Treehouse. Both series are a bit beyond his actually reading level, so I'd love to find something a bit easier to read that he'd be enthusiastic about.

The Stink series! It's perfect. DS 6.5 absolutely loves it. It's a spin off of JudyMoody, but aimed at slightly younger boys. Stink is a little boy in second grade and the stories are funny and easy to read - a really good introduction to chapter books.

Ricky Ricotta? Not a huge fan, but it's easier to read.

And, I agree about the Stink series. My kid loved them all.

Lots of Dav Pilkey books out there. Dogzilla is a favorite - hers not mine (loathe that book for some reason). Try the Dumb Bunnies series. Similar humor, easier reading. Lots of laughing.

Agree with Stink series. If he's into Pokémon, lots of those.

Thanks DCUM. We got Stink from the library today and I discovered him up reading 90 minutes past bedtime tonight!

My Weird School series. My son's first grade teacher got him hooked on reading with it.

Horrid Henry. Very funny, lots of books.

Frannie K Stein

Dragonslayer's Academy

Both have a little less potty humor (not that I care) but are still delightfully ridiculous.

Magic Treehouse
Roald Dahl books, Magic Finger, The Twits, BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory etc
Geronimo Stilton books
Boxcar children

Geronimo Stilton books

Those books are great, but don't meet the criteria of being easier to read than Captain Underpants.

Here are some similarly fun and funny series, but much more appealing than Captain Underpants:

Roscoe Riley Rules
Captain Awesome
Franny K. Stein
Zapato Power
Horrid Henry
39 Story Treehouse
Ivy + Bean (NOT just for girls!! )

Tiny Titans.

Astronaut Academy. My 3rd grader (dyslexic) loves them!
