Will the search function ever be improved?

Anonymous
It's pretty useless as of now.

Are you complaining because your results are not sorted by date? You can control that. Look on the lower right and you can select sort by date.

NP here but it really is useless. If I search a word it will show 20 results of the exact same thread.

I agree. I think there could be major improvements to the search function.

This here is the issue...

I'm not seeing it. I get a list of posts in no discernable order, and no way that I can find to reorder my results.

Under options choose "by date" rather than the "relevance default".
Helped me a ton.

But for me, choosing "By Date" doesn't work. I still get randomly sorted things.

I used the Search command on the left of the screen.
For lack of knowing what to search for, I typed in "function". I changed the forum to Website Feedback and Sort by Date. I kept the sort order as Descending.

I got 83 results. I was thinking this thread would be at the top, since its title included the word Function.

The results that were first listed were dated

3/25/15
7/23/15
8/12/15
10/8/15
10/29/15
1/6/16
1/7/16
8/12/15
12/8/15
12/9/15
12/9/15
1/6/16
7/7/15

and so on.

Jeff says he has fixed it so that it's ordered by date as a default, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Sorting by dates sort of works for me. The first page of results has the newest results, but the absolute newest are at the bottom of the first page. There is a bug in the sorting code.

Jeff- I wanted to check on the stage 4 cancer AMA thread. I searched "cancer ama" and clicked "recent topics" but it did not show up. 15 other threads did. I am 99% sure both words "cancer" and "Ama" were in the subject line. If I can't find a thread by using key words in the subject, what's the point? Please please make the searching easier!

Also, anyone else able to find that thread? Been thinking about the OP.

While I agree that the search function leaves a lot to be desired, my experience in this instance was much different than yours. I went to the "Off-Topic" forum and entered "Cancer AMA" in the search box at the top. I then received an entire page of posts from the thread you are seeking:

Just FYI- That how my searches pull up- all over the place even when I sort by date. I use chrome on a mac, if that makes a difference.

Ok thanks. I didn't search off topic. I went to the search tab on the far left. I thought the thread was in health and medicine and didn't find it there so went to the other search tool.
