What happens if you never pay the fees on eBay?

Anonymous
i posted a listing last month but no one ended up buying it so I cancelled it. Now I just got this email saying this:

Thanks for using eBay! Here's your invoice.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing eBay. Your eBay invoice for the period from December 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015 is now available to view in any web browser.

On mobile devices, you’ll see a summary of your invoice.
Total invoice amount due: $7.00

Ummm???! I never even sold the damn thing! They dont have any payment information on me, so can I just cancel my account and be rid of ebay?

You had to give credit card info when you signed up as a seller.

I also thought you had to have a PayPal account to sell on eBay.

If you didn't sell anything, then the charge is for insertion fees for the listing. I can't imagine what you were selling that would have a listing fee of $7.00, though. Did you add a lot of extras to the listing? 10-day listing? Delayed start of listing? etc...

I dont have paypal or a credit card on my account. I listed something, and someone bid for it and then messaged back concerned about it so i went ahead and canceled it for her. Just talked to customer service and theyre saying that means like its still unsold? So waiting for her to resolve the "case" so I'll be "reimbursed" . So done with ebay how stupid!!

You have to have a Paypal account in order to sell, and also you have to have a credit card on file. They will get their $7. It doesn't matter that the item didn't sell.

How did you expect payment from the bidder if you didn't have a PayPal account tied to your eBay account? I don't think eBay is the stupid one here. I listed some computer equipment last month and the winning bidder sent me a message saying he didn't have a PayPal account tied to his eBay account so he would use PayPal outside of eBay. I gave him my email address so he could pay me directly through PayPal and he proceeded to send me fake notices from PayPal stating that I had been paid. I reported him to eBay and PayPal and both locked his accounts.

On-going eBay promotion gave out a lot of free listings last month AND this month, and I am not even a power seller... Just saying.

You have a paypal and/or credit card tied to your account OP, and it will be auto-charged. There's no way you can list on Ebay otherwise. They're not that dumb of a corporation.

I've just received one of these emails for the first time, having been an eBayer for over 14 years and yet I've always been a buyer, never a seller. Seems like a phishing email to me.
