Fairfax County SACC and GT Centers

My DC was accepted into a Fairfax County GT Center for the fall. We currently use SACC at our base school. Is there a bus between the GT Center school and our base school SACC in the afternoon?

Yes, unless your base school has Local Level IV services. Then you would have no bus (if the proposed budget holds). You may want to call SACC and try to get a spot at the GT Center.

I just called SACC and they had no idea about the busing change! My son is now on the wait list, but we'll never get a spot for this fall.

Same situation, with the added twist that base school offers Level IV. No guarantee of transporation and waitlisted at GT Center SACC program.

Has anyone spoken to someone at SACC about this? Should we be calling the Board of Supervisors?

You should be calling members of the Board of Education.

Isn't SACC a County program and not a school system program?

I think so, but the problem isn't with SACC. It's with the proposal to stop busing kids to the gifted centers if they have a local level IV program. The school board has control over that. If they will just bus the kids to the GT centers, then the buses can take the kids back to their base schools for the SACC program there.

At the last School Board meeting, Kaye Kory spoke about her offering an amendment to the budget to address GT transportation. For those in her district, you may want to email her for details.
