| Our preschool makes kids play outside even when it is freezing. My older child's elementary school does not go outside if it is cold. |
| DC licensing requires an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon--even in the cold. It's good for them. Kids in Alaska certainly don't stay inside all winter. |
| 36 degrees in the outdoors is not freezing. And it is certainly not unhealthy for kids to play outside when it's in the 30s. |
| We got an email from our preschool the other day reminding us that the kids go out in all weather except rain (but will go out in snow), so to please make sure they have weather-appropriate clothing, including boots if needed. |
| "Make"? My kids love to play outside in any weather. |
|
I am 100% positive if it were actually freezing, i.e. below 32 degrees, your preschool would have indoor play that day.
A 36-37 degree day like yesterday and today is not freezing and if you bundle your child properly and send appropriate clothing, they will be fine. |
| Ours didn't yesterday, but they also have an indoor playground so they still get lots of exercise. |
I sent my child in a north face coat with gloves and a hat. It was still freezing. |
| Yes, thank god. They love it. |
No, it wasn't freezing. That is a word that means something. It was cold. Ask the school if they can keep your kid inside if you don't think he can handle a 36 degree afternoon. Maybe he can sit with the admin and read books or something. |
| They do when it is above freezing. Bundle them up and they love it. Not a big deal at all. |
It almost certainly wasn't freezing. Also, the question is not, were you cold? The question is, was your child cold? No pre-school-aged child running around outside in a North Face coat with gloves and a hat should have been cold yesterday. Hot, maybe, but not cold. |
I have relatives in Anchorage and, in fact, kids go outside all year round. I think they have an "as long as it is above zero we go outside" rule. Kids have no problem and it is important up there for people to be outside while the sun is out. My relative said that teachers of young kids have a really tough job of bundling up/unbundling the kids every day. Kids were happy to be outside yesterday at the DC school where I work. |
| Yes, my son's preschool lets kids play outside when it is cold. |
| They go out for 8-10min when it's in the 30's. Their normal outdoor time is about 30min at a time, so the rest is then spent in the gym. |
