keeping area rug corners down

We bought an indoor/outdoor rug for under our dining room table which works great, but the edges are curling up and the rug pad shows underneath, which bugs me. I saw online that there is tape for permanently adhering carpet, but I suspect we don't want to use that because we don't want to damage the floor (we are going to be selling our house in a year or two). I tried putting heavy books on the corners overnight and that didn't really work. Suggestions?
