I want to go away alone, from Jan 15-18 (Friday-Monday) as I have a 4 day weekend. Flights from Boston (where I am) to fort Lauderdale (I could take a bus or rent car to Miami) are under $300 RT. I have seen lots of cheap accommodations on Airbnb. Problem is, I don't know anything about Miami. I just have always wanted to visit, am already sick of winter, and it's cheap.
I plan on doing lots of research over the next few days but am hoping to get some suggestions here too. Notes: my main goals are relaxing on the beach, maybe visiting a couple museums/touristy spots. I'm NOT into the club scene or bars. Thanks! |
| If you want to be near the beach, stay in South Beach. |
| if you're not into the club scene don't go to miami, go to the keys |

Yeah, South Beach is noisy and its all about the clubs. The beach is very very good, but you have to share it with a lot of rowdy people.
The keys were made for you. I have done both A LOT, and can tell you that if clubbing in South Beach is not your thing, the Keys! Check out the Hemingway House, do nothing all day, enjoy great weather. If you drive from Miami to Key West (which is easily the most relaxing ride in anyone's life) stop by the upper keys, eat at the Whale Harbor Inn. The beaches in Key West are really tiny and not worth it, but walking around doing nothing is best done in Key West, and not in Miami Beach. |

Snorkeling, glass bottom boat tour, or kayaking at Pennekamp state park, which has a great coral reef

Agreed wholeheartedly. the Hilton resort at Key Largo is such a peacefully little paradise - private little manmade beach with a bar right there. Delightful |
