Persecution of Christians by the Muslims

There was an extensive article in the latest Economist about the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. Christians are fleeing in droves and their numbers are shrinking. Christians, of course, inhabited this region way before islam even existed. I would personally like to see Jeff condemn islamic violence, hatred and persecution. Not holding out much hope, though.

I unequivocally condemn the persecution of Christians by Muslims. You may not be aware, my one half of my family lineage descends from Middle Eastern Christians. I still have family ties -- lengthy though they are -- to Christians in the region.

I assume that you concern about the persecution of Christians extends to Israel? I recently posted about that and, frankly, didn't get a lot of support here.

Funny, I thought you disapproved of deviation from the original topic.

Anyway, so the number of Christians in the Middle East has shrunk from 14% of the population to 4%. They are being either killed or forced to flee or convert. While the old dictatorial regimes kept a kid on muslim violence, the new pro-religious regimes condone it. Meanwhile Turkey, which is also becoming more islamic, still denies the Armenian genocide, while also denying Kurds, probably the most secular ethnicity in the region, their statehood.

And are your family members still residing in that region? If not, why not?
