Why do posts disappear?

I posted a response on the long drinking thread in off-topic - no profanity, not arguing, just a post with my two cents - and saw it post a day or two ago. I was scrolling through the last pages of updates and saw that it wasn't there. Just curious as to why that would happen?

Yeah yeah - he's our leader, but not sure why a random post would be taken down for no apparent reason. Want to avoid doing whatever caused it again, whether technical or personal (although I kind of doubt that, because it was not controversial).
