Can you give me the pros and cons on this? A few cons that come to mind are being unable to do some of the adventure sports, and also the mosquito issue/not being able to use DEET. I'd be 27ish weeks, traveling to San Jose then to one of the beach resorts. Will also have a 3 yr old with us.
Thanks! |
| Bump. Anyone? |
| No comment on the adventure Stuff, but for mosquitos they dont have malaria there so just use natural bug stuff. I would be careful with anything uncooked and the water though. |
| I would just be concerned about medical care. I talked to my dr about traveling during my pregnancy, and she said don't book a trip anywhere unless you will be ok having your baby there. Personally I wouldn't go. I was on bed rest from 24 weeks onward and on travel restrictions. What would have happened if I was put on bed rest while in Costa Rica? |
| I just got back from the Tamarindo area. No mosquitos there...we went to Rincon De la Vieja park and I was eaten alive there. You couldn't go zip lining but you could still enjoy the beaches, etc . |
| Costa Rica has a better health system than the U.S. On many metrics, and it is a popular retirement destination. I wouldn't worry about medical care there (but I would be bummed to miss zip lining!) |
| I'd skip Costa Rica this time and do Florida. |
| Just got back. We used the heavy duty deet and still got bitten. Also almost every activity says not to do if pregnant. Plus I cannot imagine being in the humidity pregnant. Even just a walk in the rain forest got a little slippery after a little rain. Best vacation ever but would not recommend to someone pregnant. |

I would not go.. The travel warnings for dengue, and a bunch of other mosquito illnesses are current and an issue. We went and got lucky it wasn't an issue though we sprayed like crazy. There is also TB precaution mostly at the airport so we will get tested in a few months (our dr told us to come back .. He did not say this two years ago when we went
). |
We just came back and had to see 3 doctors for our daughter.. They kept giving us medicine that was not approved for children.. So.. Wouldn't quite agree |

I would skip it, but I'm risk averse.
I've been to Panama, which has an even better health system, and I still probably wouldn't be crazy about it when pregnant. Plus the whole zika Brazil thing has my radar up about mosquitoes in general - just seems like an unnecessary risk to me. |
