Anonymous
If st time we will have a party at my home for my soon to be 6y old. I'm thinking Saturday from 3 to 5 pm, and I want drop off - we won't have entertainers or special games - pretty much a bigger play date with cake, pizza etc.

How do I word this?

Thanks.

Do you think most people will drop off? I really would prefer not to have to entertain the parents. I'm aiming for a very low key party.

Yes. Most parents are happy to leave their child someplace!!! The only reason I would stay is if I was friendly with the parents as well or if the party looked out of control and poorly supervised.

I think you could expect at least some of the parents to remain at the party. My youngest child would have flipped at that age if I left him at a party. Two years later, he'd be fine with it, but he was a very clingy kid.

I would say drop off and parents welcome. I would not be dropping off my child if I did not know you well. I would not say anything and just decline if I saw it was a drop-off party.

As an aside, please dint plan for just a big play date. It doesn't shake out that way. Plan at least a few organized activities.

Change to "Drop off at 3pm. Pick up between 5:00-5:30pm please."

By 6, dropoff is default and expected.

Well, I posted a question regarding this here a few days ago and most people said the kids just want to play. That when they have organized activities they don't have fun at this age and up. What do you suggest pp? It will be a Lego theme party.

Initially I asked the question because I was planning on having a movie party and show the Lego movie.

Ugh. I hate birthday parties. I feel overwhelmed.

Suggestions are welcomed. I'm inviting 11 children, 4 of whom are my immediate neighbors, and only 4 are classmates. The other 3 are friends from somewhere else.

You don't leave your kids with strangers.

This. It makes it clear that it is drop off which most people expect once the kids start elementary school.
