So I'm extremely Vitamin D deficient and Anemic. Red blood cell count borderline normal just barely but the measurement of another indicator was solidly low. Thyroid TSH came back at 1.66 so normal but TPO was 95 when 0-99 is normal so it was pretty high. So Anemia and Vitamin D is tied to RPL (my issue) so I'm hopeful we can correct this and do IUI. My head is spinning. I'm excited for my consult with Dr. Abassi to go over the results. I feel like she finally uncovered something when many others have not over the years.
My FSH was 5.8 and no sign of PCOS so yes even though I have longer cycles sometime (35-45 days) so I'm glad . |
| Good luck! I hope it's just as easy as correcting those things. |
| I actually read that there's a correlation between Vit D and infertility. So hopefully you can fix that easily! |
| Low vitamin D has been linked to auto-immune disease and that TPO suggests you are borderline Hashimoto's. Do you have any known auto-immune problems? Do auto-immune disorders run in your family? |
|
This is the original poster. I've suspected Hashimotos based on the symptoms. I don't really have any other autoimmune that I know of. They have tested for Lupus before when I had hives for no reason for over a year after my 3rd loss. I'm interested in getting it looked at more.
Do you have any advice for dealing with borderline Hashimotos? |
|
I have a subclinical thyroid issue (and I would cycle between hypo and hyper). It is not clear if it is Hashis (but the treatment is the same).
My thyroid issue manifested itself through hives. My derm diagnosed me. Good luck. |
what exactly did the deto test to arrive at this conclusion? I also have unexplained hives |
|
he did a full blood work analysis - on absolutely everything
my TSH came up high (5?) You can ask an endocrinologist or a PCP to do a full work up on you (T4/T3) and my endo said that he has seen only 5 people have hives with thyroid issues so it is by no means common |

Start taking 5000 IU daily. It takes awhile for D to build up in your system.
I was anemic and low D and was eventually diagnosed with a low positive Hashimoto's (though my TSH and T4 are within normal ranges). I met with a dietician as well as took supplements and fertility based acupuncture. Through IVF I am now 18 weeks. |
| Thank you PP. That sounds exactly like my situation. Is there another reason why you went to IVF? I'm hoping IUI is enough meds and monitoring for us. We don't have sperm issues. I do have irregular cycles likely caused by these imbalances. Sometimes 28 days but mostly 32-35 with occasionally like 1 time a year being 50-60 days. |
I doubt the borderline Hashimoto's is causing your miscarriages, but it's probably indicative of a broader immune problem. If your body is attacking its own thyroid gland, there's a good chance your body is also attacking your embryos when you conceive. Extra vitamin D may help somewhat but I wouldn't be surprised if you need more intervention (i.e. steroids, intralipids, etc.) to keep your immune system in check. |
I'm the PP. I was successful through IUI's but had 2 miscarriages and a few chemical pregnancies. I was able to get pregnant easily but not sustain it. My RE suggested IVF because she thought it could be an egg quality issue (I'm also AMA). I think acupuncture could help with your cycles. I would go to the endo now to see about Hasimoto's and if medication is needed. I discovered mine while I was pregnant and my Dr. does not want to medicate me since my TSH and T4 levels are normal during this pregnancy (though my anti thyroglobin was the one that was slightly elevated during initial testing). I would definitely take the Vit D supplement and think about CoQ10/Ubiquinol as well and of course the prenatal. For the anemia, start eating eggs, bison meat, liver, bone broth, spinach - stuff like that. It took a bit but my D and anemia are in check. |

This is the OP. Thank you everyone for responding and giving me a ton of good thoughts and suggestions. I'm ok with futher testing for Immune issues and doing IUI but not IVF yet. I hoping I can do IUI (for the monitoring) with any immune meds and correct the Anemia and Vit D. I've been reading online about how you can use IUI with the Intralipids and Steroids. Test don't show any egg quality/quantity issues except for on the longer cycles that they are just "old and too big" once they actually ovulate if that makes sense. My most successful (if you can say that ) in regards to withstanding my body and trying to implant and having higher betas before the lose are the cycles where I ovulated on day 12-14 so I think if we can use IUI and meds and monitoring to make that happen, we might be successful.
I guess in hindsight, this makes sense as the last several losses, I've realized I was PG when I started getting hives and itchy all over. Ugh. Hindsight is 20 20 I guess. |
| Bumping this thread as I have similar issues and wondered if you have had success, OP? And if so, on what protocol and with what practice? I hope you are doing well! |
That's so interesting. When I finally had a successful pg after several cycles of IVF, I had started heading to the roof of my building during lunch to just chill out alone (there was rarely anybody else out there) and meditate. I would hang out in the sun for about 1/2 hour. After my transfer, I needed that time during the TWW. And, of course, that's where I was when the nurse called with my - finally - good news. I always thought that those months of sunning myself every day helped me. |
