tipping etiquette in salons

Anonymous
I go to a very fancy salon, and would like to check in on tipping protocol. What do folks typically tip for a hair coloring process, hair cut, waxing, manicures, pedicures, etc? Do you tip the helpers who wash your hair (different from the stylist who cuts or colors your hair)?

Thank you!

20% (a bit less if they do a bad job).

20% total tip. I make sure the stylist gets at least 15% of this, depending on the cost of the cut. And the shampoo person gets the rest. On a $70 cut, I give $11 to the stylist and $4 to the shampoo person.

Fortunately I have always been happy with the services I have received, but if they did a BAD job, then I would not tip.

I have been going to my stylist for years and he cuts me a nice break on the price of cut and highlights. So, I tip 20% on the amount that I would pay without that break. I tip the shampooer between 2-5 dollars depending on how much time she must spend with me. And of course, more during the holidays.

I rarely get manicures (I garden, my hands are awful) and only get a few pedicures a year (usually one each season and then just keep up with it myself). But on these services I also tip 20%.

Really? Why is that? Just curious about how you came to decide on that percentage.
