Spanish Immersion -Centreville

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm toying with trying for a lottery spot and would like personal experiences with this program. I've heard mixed things. Particular questions:
1) Will DC benefit and really learn the language if the parents know only "tourist" spanish?
2) I've been told that non-native spanish speakers are made fun of and treated somewhat poorely by those kids/families that are native spanish speakers (there is a more diverse population at the school than ouro neighborhood school, which I like, but not so much that I want DC to be berated at every turn).
