How much to give daycare for Xmas if only there for two weeks?

Anonymous
I've seen some threads here about families giving at least $50-100 per caregiver. Does it matter how long we have been there for?

What would you give to a home daycare if you are new? Does it matter?

Since you're new, maybe a gift card (Target? Starbucks?) with a nice note saying how much you are looking forward to getting to know your daycare provider better.

As for the amount, I'd say maybe half of what you would give if you had been there a long time?

OP here. Also, I feel like the assistants do SO much more work than the owner. Is it odd to give them more than the owner? Or should I give equally?
Anonymous
I would give equally unless there is a main person assigned to your child, like a homeroom teacher.

I'm feeling sad. We can't afford to give daycare anything this year (DH is losing his job). We're debating on transitioning DD into part time too....Ugh.. Not sure what to give...

They may not have 8 people to give to or their HHI may be over $250k.

I doubt they're expecting anything to be honest and I doubt every single family gives. Give what's right to you. There's no wrong answer. You could even order pizza and salad for them one day and I bet they'd enjoy that. And I would think the owner would be exempt. I thought you do t tip owners in general?

Yeah $50-100 is LOT for us. I probably won't even spend that much on DH!

That's a nice idea too.

2 weeks? I'd skip. Bake some cookies or other treats and call it a day.

People on here may say $50-100 per provider, but the reality is gifts are more in the $10-$20 range. DCUM is not exactly a representative sample.

Yeah, I'm giving $25 for each assistant and the lead. I can't afford more (especially because the timing is rough--they close for 2 weeks, so we have to pay for daycare and backup care).

I don't spend more than $50 on christmas gifts for anyone.

Omg.. gifting them while paying for their two week vacation? ahhhhhh no. That's a LONG time to be closed. I'm glad my provider stays open even if it's just assistants or subs. I'm sorry!

I wouldn't give anything if you've just started by the time Christmas rolls around. 2 weeks is nothing.

PP and OP- please stop using the divisive and exclusionary term you both used.

The correct term is "holiday."
