Best Pharmacy to Order Medications From - Cash Paying Patient

Anonymous
My insurance does not cover any of my fertility treatments or medications so I will be paying for everything OOP. I will be doing IVF for the first time. Can anyone recommend a pharmacy to order medications from that provides a good price and service? I don't even know where to begin to shop around.

Thank you for your help!

Prosperity Specialty Pharmacy in Fairfax is GREAT. They are not mail order so you can pick everything up you need same day and their customer service is unheard of for a pharmacy. I'm not sure about their prices compare in general, but I had to purchase Follistim outright and I believe they were cheaper than Sharaf or Freedom (both mail order). I know they had a discount they applied is insurance wasn't covering things.

We used Prosperity too, but you should definitely ask your RE about cost savings opportunities. Many of the medications are available from a very limited number of pharmacies and some require refrigeration. Be assertive with your RE and ask for help controlling cost. Your RE may be able to perscribe more cost effective formulas. Good luck with your IVF.

You need to shop around - different pharmacies have better or worse deals on different meds, and you can save $100s if not $1000 by shopping around.

In the States, Freedom has the best price on Gonal-F and second best on HCG (trigger shot). Alexander Drug had the lowest price on HCG, Menupur and Bravelle, and the lowest at the time on Follistim although they told me the price was about to go up. Shrafts had decent prices on Bravelle and Follistim too. Shrafts and Alexander had the best prices on Lupron.

IVFmeds, which is based out of Europe, had the best prices of all - I saved at least $1200 using them on my last cycle (max. dose of FSH), although you have to order 10 days ahead of time.

I called:

Freedom
IV
Schrafts
Prosperity
Ambulatary
Mandells
Village Fertility

Overall, I found Freedom much cheaper. Their Gonal F was 1/2 the price of everyone elses.

We called Freedom when our SGF nurse told us of some kind of special they had going on. When we factored everything in, it was still not cheaper than Prosperity.
