| I know scores aren't everything but I also want to be realistic. Rising 5th grader stanine 5 (verbal reasoning) the rest all 7s looking at NCS, Holton, Sidwell |
| OP here actual percentiles are 48, 81, 86, 88 |
| Is 5th grade an entry point for any of those schools? I know the verbal reasoning score is pretty low for Sidwell. I'm not sure about the others. In a non-entry year, it's really hard to predict what will qualify. |
| My son took the ISEE too. Curious what scores are expected/typical. |
No |
| I think Holton usually takes a few girls in 5th, but it is mostly based on class size. As for the scores, I think they are low for Holton too. My daughter had 7,8 & 9's. Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension was her highest and her math was lower. |
| These scores may be OK, even for Sidwell. It totally depends on the other parts of the application and, most importantly the interview and your child's special strengths and talents. |
On what basis are you making this observation? OP, if I were you, I would broaden your pool of schools. Both my DCs took the ISEE for MS and the feedback we received from various quarters was that they needed scores in the 7-9 range. Your DD may still be admitted because of the strength of her academic course work, extracurriculars, etc, but you need to maximize your DD's options. |
| These scores are good enough for Holton. My DD is a current middle schooler and had lower scores than this, but she's a great girl, kind, fits in well, etc. She does receive support at Holton and they have been wonderful. I highly recommend the school. |
| PP, what do you mean by "support" at Holton? |
|
I will apply to more school just in case...Bullis, GDS, Potomac, Maret, St Stephen's & St Agnes, Edmund Burke, WIS, etc...especially entry year into Middle school.
|
Take SSAT as well. Few schools you stated here are very competitive and having a better test scores definitely won't hurt (but no guaranteed too, of course!) |
Please go ahead and post! Still waiting for our scores (mail). |
Edmund Burke starts at 6th grade, though. |
OP here.. planning to take the SSAT but I'm not holding out much hope as I hear ISEE usually yields a better score for those stronger in Math like my DC. |
